A 32-year-old male was recently prescribed Celebrex (celecoxib) for osteoarthritis. He was diagnosed with a history of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs use (NSAID, NSAID/NSAID, aspirin, or selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor) and was prescribed celecoxib as an adjunct to oral NSAID, NSAID, and aspirin therapy, but was unable to tolerate the drug. He had a history of high blood pressure and peripheral vascular disease. A history of NSAID use was documented for the first time in the past six months. The patient was taking Celebrex at a dose of 50 mg. There was no history of NSAID use in the past six months. The patient had a history of hypertension, angina, and cardiovascular disease. He had an increased risk of stroke. The patient did not report any recent stroke or death, although he had not had any problems with blood pressure or heart disease. The patient was on regular NSAID therapy, including a prescription for celecoxib. The patient was a smoker, reported no other complaints, and had no family history of NSAID use. A review of his medical history did not reveal any history of NSAID use or gastrointestinal problems.
A blood examination revealed a mildly elevated creatinine level of 0.1 mg/dL. The patient was instructed to receive a blood sample for his renal function. The patient was started on celecoxib (200 mg once a day) and was subsequently tapered off. The patient reported no signs of kidney damage. There was no other complaints. The patient had no symptoms of renal impairment. The patient was instructed to continue on a total of 200 mg of celecoxib, but did not achieve a hemodynamic baseline or clinical benefit. The patient was then tapered off Celebrex again. This time, the blood sample was sent to the laboratory to determine hemodynamic response to Celebrex. This test showed a hemodynamic response to Celebrex (mean blood pressure = 120/80 mm Hg, pulse rate = 12 beats/min, heart rate = 108 beats/min, blood pressure= 90/80 mm Hg, and oxygen saturation = 80%). The laboratory results indicated the presence of an abnormal protein. There was no change in laboratory values.
After the blood sample was sent to the laboratory, he was placed on a blood sample kit. There was no evidence of any known medication within seven days. The patient was given a blood sample kit with all the necessary blood sample preparations including COX-2, COX-1, and COX-2 inhibitor products to prevent potential drug interactions. There was no evidence of other problems or adverse reactions. He was started on a blood sample kit with all the necessary blood products including COX-2, COX-1, and COX-2 inhibitor products to prevent potential drug interactions. The kit was tested for a possible association with celecoxib.
